Spring Events are In Full Swing at McDonald Building Company!

Our folks were quite busy last week few weeks out and about supporting various industry organizations that are near and dear to MBC. Last week, we attended Project HOME's 35th Anniversary Gala as a Silver Sponsor and Atlanticare Foundation's 63rd Annual Gala as their annual Corporate Healthcare Champion sponsor, both fantastic organizations and ones we proudly support. And this week we were out on the golf course ⛳ to support the 25th Anniversary Matthew Koenig Memorial AIA Philadelphia Golf Outing as a Course Sponsor as well as the AMFP Greater Philadelphia - Association of Medical Facility Professionals Annual Golf Classic - also both exceptional organizations that we enjoy networking with those in the AEC community and markets we build in. 🤝 Whew...what a fun few weeks for us at MBC! MBC Introduces our 2024 SQP Committee!

📢 A special shout-out today to our 2024 SQP Education Committee members - Erick Tripp Shawn Philipps Valerie Schell and Sam Cellucci. 📚 Our MBC education team this year is focused on providing monthly continuing education trainings to our staff with a focus on Safety, Quality, and Productivity. And this year the team will be instrumental in memorializing these trainings by further refining and documenting company procedures the "MBC way". In this month's training, the SQP team facilitated an "Insurance for Contractors 101" and partnered with American Global, our marvelous insurance and bonding partners. In Preparation of Project HOME’s 35th Anniversary Gala, Let’s Check in on Kates Place!

🏗 Progress is moving along at historic Kates Place on Sansom Street in Philadelphia - this 144-unit, fully-furnished, permanent supportive housing project undergoing extensive renovations and upgrades. Our construction team is halfway through room renovations and window replacements and the brick repointing on the exterior is now complete. Mechanical equipment was recently picked up to the rooftop with ease thanks to Thackray Crane Rental, Inc. and our team is preparing for lobby finish upgrades in the coming weeks. We are proud of our longstanding relationship with Project HOME and are excited to build for them once again on such an impactful project for the homeless and affordable housing community in Center City.

We look forward to next week where MBC will be participating as one of the lead sponsors in Project HOME's 35th Anniversary Gala to honor the retirement of founders Joan McConnon and Sister Mary Scullion. 🏬

Construction Begins at Collingswood Department of Public Works Building

MBC was delighted to attend the groundbreaking ceremony for the Borough of Collingswood Dept of Public Works on Wednesday. The new facility will be a two-story, 12,000+ square foot office building along with a nearly 10,000 square foot five-bay equipment garage. The new modern design and additional space will meet the growing storage and equipment needs of the Collingswood community. Construction is anticipated to be complete in about 18 months. We are proud to partner with architect Thriven Design and Remington & Vernick Engineers on this project. MBC Ladies Enjoy a Day of Service with Habitat for Humanity in Lansdowne, PA

The women at MBC enjoyed a beautiful, sunny day last week spent on a cul-de-sac in Lansdowne to help lend a helping hand in support of Women Build Day for Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery and Delaware Counties. We secured attic insulation and attic framing, and the bulk of progress was outside building all the components of a perimeter fence surrounding the four homes. The day was uplifting, inspiring and GOOD FOR THE SOUL. A special shout out Patti Post and Paul Rihn, long-standing volunteers of Habitat who we've had the pleasure to partner with for several years now year after year at Women Build...these two are salt of the earth and are passionate about the communities they serve with their homebuilding skills. 🏡

MBC Participates in Giant Jenga Tournament Hosted by ACE Mentor Phill

Last Thursday, the ACE Mentor Program of Greater Philadelphia hosted 64 teams for its annual Giant Jenga Tournament at the Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum. MBC was not wildly successful and toppled over the Jenga tower in the first round...but what an enjoyable night for team building and networking with Philadelphia's finest in the AEC industry. Special thanks to our resident referees Shawn Philipps and Harrison Lownes! We are so proud to support the ACE Mentor Program who links up local high school students with mentor companies to learn and experience careers in the architecture, engineering, and construction industry. #ACEmentorship

Major Milestone NewCourtland Saint Bart’s Phase II!

Last week, McDonald Building Company proudly checked another momentous milestone off the list over at New Courtland Saint Bartholomew’s “Saint Bart’s” Phase II project with their Topping Off Celebration. Batman, the drone, was thrilled to capture the crane onsite as the skies echoed with achievement when the final precast concrete plank was placed. Huge thank you and kudos to the NewCourtland Team, the artistic design minds at Blackney Hayes Architects, Independence Steel, Boccella Precast, Dale Construction, and Thackray Crane Rental for all their efforts to perfectly top off one incredible day! Also, a BIG round of applause to our MBC Project Team - Erick Tripp, Matt Kreft, Anthony Galati, and Valerie Schell. MDSA Friends and Family Event in July was a great way to send off summer by building a legacy!

MDSA (McDonald Dale Strategic Alliance) was proud to host a special and extra sweet "Friends & Family" event on the last Thursday of July down at 3.0 University Place on the Green Roof Terrace. Those who worked on the project gathered with their families to visit the site for a tour and see the incredible work their loved ones put into this build over the last few years. Although the day was a summer scorcher, the shaded terrace provided the perfect, breezy spot to showcase the outdoor amenities 3.0 University Place provides. Guests and kids enjoyed some cotton candy, putt putt, giant jenga, and Lil Pop Shop popsicles to stay cool. Thank you to HELM Creative Studio and Lil Pop Shop for a joyous and memorable afternoon. We are proud to be part of this one-of-a-kind construction and proudly share all this building has to offer with the generations to come. The day was perfectly timed out too, as it just so happened to line up with receiving news 3.0 passed all site inspections! Founder and CEO of UPA, Scott Mazo, couldn’t have said it better, “We’re at a great moment moving forward towards lease up and fitouts. Great job to both Dale Corp & McDonald Building Company...we’re looking forward to the potential of the entire 3.0 building!”

Batman the Drone visits NewCourtland Apartments to see the progress on Phase II!

Where in the MBC world is Batman now?!? Batman flew on over to the site at NewCourtland Apartments in Northeast Philadelphia and things onsite are moving quickly. The first level of precast planks are being set and the wall panels on the third level are getting secured. Shout out to Independence Steel & Dale Construction for their handy work onsite these last few weeks. Phase 2 of this project will ultimately offer 48 one-bedroom apartments for seniors and support space along with convenient covered parking. Thank you Revolution Recovery for hosting MBC’s SQP July Meeting!

This month, our SQP Education Committee arranged a staff field trip to Revolution Recovery in NE Philly for a site tour to get an up close look into their waste management & recycling sorting facility. Revolution Recovery receives 500-600 tons of scrap and waste each day at their primary hub in Philly and recently expanded their sorting facilities to Newark, DE and Allentown, PA. MBC has been partnering with Revolution Recovery or "RR" since 2010 and we are proud of our combined accomplishments of diverting significant percentages of construction waste from landfills to recycling centers, regardless of LEED or funding requirements. We also got to learn about RR's RAIR program (Recycled Artists in Residency) - a residency program that provides artists with a studio space to produce one-of-a-kind meaningful art with on-site access to recovered materials. We ended the morning with some delicious lunch from Sweet Lucy’s just down the street. The torch has officially been passed, and our Safety, Quality, and Production (SQP) education committee has been well underway this year, providing monthly training sessions to benefit the MBC staff. The 2023 SQP Education Committee draft picks include: (shown left to right) Jeff Graef as Committee Chair, Ali Perkey as Coordinator, Kevin Rose as Vice-Chair, and James Cameron as Treasurer. This fantastic four has been tirelessly assembling fun & informational meetings complete with trivia on topics such as CHC testing, manpower reporting, mass timber, project scheduling and a particularly fun & interactive Color Code communications workshop.
