Flyby Friday - Final Look from above at Collingswood Department of Public Works Facility
For this Flyby Friday, our height-loving drone, Batman made their way over to Collingswood, New Jersey to take a peek at the final view of Collingswood’s BRAND NEW Department of Public Works Facility. The 22,000-square-foot space is now fully operational and built to support the Borough’s essential and expanded public works team with function and flexibility in mind. The two-story building features 12,248 square-foot climate-controlled offices and administrative space alongside five giant bay garages that allow seamless vehicle access and storage. The facility is also equipped with locker rooms, meeting areas, restrooms, and dedicated high-value storage all thoughtfully designed to meet the day-to-day needs of the municipal employees to better serve the Collingswood community. Annnnddd just to the north there’s a separate detached single story parking garage housing the big dog equipment like Bobcat attachments and snow blowers (we might need those sooner than you think!). Built with the future in mind the facility includes infrastructure for EV charging and is ready for future solar panel installation, reducing the costs and environmental impact over time – WOOT!

HUGE HARD HATS OFF to our MBC Project Team – Jeff Graef, Kelly Giuliani, Regina Ennis, and Danny McDonald for building the dream one submittal at a time. MBC is so thankful to the Borough of Collingswood for their partnership and to Thriven Design for another fantastic creative collaboration. Batman will be back soon with his next mission but for now, we get to enjoy the view from above! hashtag#buildingontrust hashtag#flybyfriday hashtag#welcometothembcfamily hashtag#mbcbuilds hashtag#batmanthedrone hashtag#finalflyby hashtag#collingswood

Love is in the air at MBC! Congrats to Aubrey and Danny on their beautiful wedding!
LOOK WHO TIED THE KNOT! TWO OF OUR VERY OWN AT MBC! Aubrey Kessler (MBC's Project Scheduler) and Danny McDonald (MBC's Job Cost Accountant), got married on Saturday! Their wedding was absolutely beautiful - full of love, laughter, and packed with the McDonald family. These two lovebirds got engaged earlier this summer and impressively whipped together a gorgeous celebration in only a short few months. It's not every day two of our team members get married, let alone, to each other....and to boot, it was ALSO Aubrey's birthday on their wedding day! From all of us at MBC, congratulations to both of you on your wedding, Aubrey and Danny, we are thrilled for you! #mbcfamily #buildingontrust #welovelove #projectlove #mcdonaldfamily #buildingalegacy
Wildly fun memories at TPZ earlier this month to continue our 15-year celebration!
Flamingos, Tigers, and Bears…OH MY! Earlier this year, MBC raised a glass to 15 years of incredible projects and building our beloved company with our otterly magnificent staff. Last week, we let out our wild side and kept the celebration going – with our family fun-tastic day at Philadelphia Zoo! The MBC crew was ready for a roaring good time, trading in our hard hats for safari hats to have one un-fur-gettable afternoon. From scavenger hunts and caricatures, to a bear-y delicious dinner in the Garden Pavilion – every moment was filled with a zoo-per dose of MBC pride and a walk down memory lane!
.
Cheers to 15 years with the best herd in the business. Thank you to our incredible staff and trusted partners who made every step of this journey a memorable celebration. #buildingontrust #fifteenyears #mbccares #wildgoodtimes #philadelphiazoo #mbcproud #happyanniversary #mbcfamily

Philly Zoo receives beary important AZA Accreditation!

Accreditation by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums is a commitment to excellence in animal care, safety, and the visitor experience. This highest-in-the-world accreditation standard is accomplished through teamwork, just like wolves working in a pack, and like any project at MBC, with a lot of heart. At Philadelphia Zoo, meeting that standard meant more than 40,000 square feet of a zoo-wide series of renovations and upgrades – from fan-favorite animal habitats to the systems and facilities that keep daily operations running. These are no small feats and couldn’t have been accomplished without the pack mentality in mind – a united team working for the same dream. Our partners at Aegis PM Group said it best “The dedication, teamwork, and professionalism made a real difference, and it shows in our outcome…Together, we delivered something we should all be proud of.” That pride is definitely shared here at MBC with the Zoological Society of Philadelphia, Dan Bosin Associates, Howard Lebold at MAI, Aegis Project Management, our MBC teams onsite. Accreditation standards were exceeded. Big round of a-paws for the entire team who made it happen. #buildingontrust #philadelphiazoo #aza #accreditation #animalcare hashtag#visitorexperience #mbcdelivers #partoftheflock #bearyimportantupdates #conservationmatters

MBC says goodbye and good luck to our Summer Intern - Thank you, Quentin!
Today, we say goodbye to our summer intern Quentin who heads back to school at the University of Auburn next week. Quentin became an integral part of the University Place 3.0 project team...from coordinating details to reviewing drawings, he nailed every task and learned the “blueprints” of great teamwork. Along the way, he grew his skills, learned more tricks of the trade, and discovered the value of asking the right questions to get the right information…the foundation of any strong project..
.
.
Quentin’s biggest advice to future interns? “The little things are just as important as the big things.” We couldn’t agree more. Sometimes, it’s the small details that truly hold the project together. A fun fact about Quentin...If he could take his skills anywhere, Quentin would hammer out a plan to work in Amsterdam restoring the city’s famous canal houses. MBC is grateful to have been part of your journey, Quentin, we wish you the best of luck in the future and you’ll always have a place in the MBC crew. Please come build memories with us again soon! #mbccares #mbcintern #teammbc #constructioncareers

Let’s Flamin-GO! Flamingo Cove at the Philly Zoo is now OPEN!
What better way to celebrate National Pink Flamingo Day (which is today!) than to shake a tail feather and roll out the pink carpet for our beautiful pink feathered friends?!? McDonald Building Company is proud to fan out and reveal a few of our incredible final photos (!) of Flamingo Cove at the Philadelphia Zoo! This fully reimagined habitat was built to support the fabulous flock of flamboyance through conservation, continuing education and truly honor some fabulous feathers with bold and thoughtful design updates. The 17,966 square foot renovation has now opened to the public so Zoo Members and Guests can enjoy the newly expanded footprint from their previous aviary. The flamingos can gladly strut their stuff in style (as always) with the expanded wading and nesting zones – allowing guests to view these long-legged locals up close like never before.
MBC is beyond grateful for our partnership with The Philadelphia Zoo and to make this pink dream come to life. We’re hatching some big ideas with the Zoo and couldn’t thank them enough for their trust in our valued fur-iendship. Thank you to PGAV Architects, and to all our trades and subcontractors onsite who have made the feathered finish just fantastic! Huge shout out to our MBC flock who were instrumental in making things flamin-GO – Ali Moats-Perkey, Jeff Graef, Dylan Robertson, Sam Cellucci, John Weiland, Regina Ennis, and Beth Giorla. MBC goes all GRAY in MAY!
MBC WENT GRAY IN MAY! In honor of Brain Tumor Awareness Month, every Friday in #GrayMay, you can catch the MBC crew showing off their best gray apparel (wigs sold separately) in support of our amazing Superintendent, Matt Coleman! Matt’s journey has been beyond inspirational. He and his family continue to move forward with strength, grace, and one foot in front of the other.
.
.
.
Here’s just some of our favorite “gray-scapades” this May in support of our guy Matt. Go Gray in May isn’t just about putting on our best gray gear one month a year. It’s a time to recognize strength, raise awareness, and show up for the people we care about. At MBC, we strive to build a culture where support runs deep. This October 11th, we’ll be participating in the Race for Hope Greater Philadelphia (https://lnkd.in/euHfchpw) at Cooper River Park. We’ll be there with bells and hard hats on, walking, running, and cheering for hope. Most importantly, we’ll be there for one SUPER person. We wear gray. We walk forward. And as Matt continues to say “One foot in front of the other.” You got this, Matt! #mbccares #buildingontrust #inhonorofmatt #btam #gograyinmay #grayinmay #raceforhope #teammbc #onefootinfrontoftheother #mbcfamily

Special Edition - Flyby Friday at NewCourtland Clearfield Apartments!
Last Friday marked a significant milestone at the NewCourtland Clearfield Apartments as we placed the final precast plank on this 48-unit affordable senior housing project in Philadelphia’s Allegheny West neighborhood. Congratulations to NewCourtland and their team, all the onsite subs, and our dedicated project team for reaching this incredible mark. From day one, NewCourtland has been a true partner, deeply committed to creating a safe, welcoming community for Philadelphia’s seniors. Their vision and leadership have been essential to every step of this progress, and we’re honored to help bring that vision to life. McDonald Building Company was proud to celebrate the topping-off ceremony with members from the fantastic NewCourtland team. Of course, none of this would be possible without the incredible teams on the ground. It takes a village to raise a roof, especially one built with this much purpose.

Project HOME: Kate’s Place Ribbon Cutting Ceremony!

Yesterday, MBC proudly joined the Project HOME team to celebrate a new look at Kate’s Place in Philadelphia after a year of meaningful renovations. The celebration at Kate's Place featured humbling words from resident Morgen Benner, as well as remarks from key partners and supporters including Donna Bullock, President and CEO of Project HOME; Robin Wiessmann, Executive Director and CEO of PHFA; Katherine Christiano, Chair of the Board of Directors at the William Penn Foundation; Kelvin Jeremiah, President and CEO of PHA; Dan Fitzpatrick, President of Citizens Bank Mid-Atlantic Region; and representatives from the Mayor’s Office and City Council. Kate’s Place received a total of $22 million in funding to support the renovations, including $12 million in Low-Income Housing Tax Credits and $5 million in federal funding. This critical support helped make this renovation possible.
The 12-story building included renovations to 144 units of permanent supportive housing focused on increasing accessibility, updating/modernizing systems, and revitalizing shared community spaces like the chapel, library, and lounge, preserving the historical building. The renovations further provide a home that continually supports stability and well-being while fostering a deep-sense of community. McDonald Building Company was honored to serve as the construction partner for Kate’s Place, continuing our long-standing collaboration with Project HOME. We’re deeply grateful for their trust and to work alongside their dedicated construction team - Janet Stearns, Matt McCarter, Larry Arney and our design partners at Cicada Architecture. We, of course, have to give special hard hats off and thanks to our MBC project team - James Cameron (Project Manager), Ali Perkey (Assistant Project Manager), Ed Swank (Superintendent), Beth Cichonski (Project Coordinator), and our talented carpentry crew - Jared Applegate, Frank Cardone, Noah Fisher, Ryan Hannigan, Brad Horrocks, and Justin Lausch.
