Subs for Subs! MBC celebrates Sub Appreciation Day at the Jobsites
This October, MBC celebrated our subcontractor trade partners with our 1st annual Subcontractor Appreciation Month. 👷🏽👷♀️MBC visited the field sites each Wednesday throughout the month delivering sub lunches 🌯 (we know, we know…it’s a hoagie, but just go along with it for the namesake) to our awesome trade partners, all 250+ of them! Subcontractor Appreciation Month is our way to say THANK YOU to our dedicated working crews, we are grateful for all of your hard work each and every day. 🙌🏼🙌🏼 Jobsites included Rowan Judson Diamond, Woodlawn Storage Facility, Kinder Park IV, and last but not least, in conjunction with McDonald Dale Strategic Alliance (MDSA), we closed the month with 3.0 University Place. This couldn’t have been possible without the help of G&M Deli of Sewell, NJ and Jim’s Steaks in Philly. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 No matter how you slice it, there aren’t enough ways to thank every single subcontractor for all the work they put into building buildings. Lettuce take a moment to give some big cheers to our subs, they’re a pretty big dill. #mbccares#buildingontrust#subappreciationmonth#subsforsubs#mbclovesoursubs#weknowitsahoagie#g_and_m_deli#jimssouthstreet

MBC team attends the 21st Annual AIA Golf Outing this past Monday
Two foursomes represented McDonald Building Company at the 21st Annual AIA Golf Outing this past Monday! In addition to being a great day of golfing with colleagues, we even had one of our own Project Managers, Greg Ondick, sink a 30+ foot putt to put him in the putting contest playoff. Ultimately not a winner, but a beautiful weather day and a great time was had by all. Thank you AIA for hosting the event and to Sunnybrook Golf Course for a fun afternoon! #buildingontrust #aiagolfouting2020 #golfday #mbcevents

Best of luck and huge thank you to our summer intern, Dan Pawluczyk!
This summer we were lucky enough to have Dan Pawluczyk return for his FOURTH summer internship at MBC. 🥳 Most notably, he was stationed over at Ancillae Assumpta Academy for the last few months assisting our Superintendent and field crews with various day-to-day responsibilities and material ordering. Just ask him about alllll the specialty lighting! 💡 Dan has been a great addition to the team and handled any task thrown at him. MBC’s internship program offers the ability to work alongside MBC staff whether in the field or our main office (or both) and hopes to provide a professional hands-on experience for college students aspiring to learn in the AEC industry.
Dan has helped with many projects over the years through his summer internships including his alma mater Holy Ghost Prep when we built the school’s new Holt Activities Center.💪 Dan will be returning back to school this fall {virtually} for his fifth and final year at Penn State pursuing a degree in Architecture. 👨🎓 Best of luck to you Dan, you are welcome back anytime! #mbccares#mbcfamily#buildingontrust#danistheman#internship

But first…lemme take a “maskfie”
MBC Cares – In addition to beefing up the PPE for our field crews, MBC made sure our remote staff was covered too in their own at home “branch offices”. Custom masks were graciously homemade by Anne McDonald and mailed out to our entire MBC team. Protected in style!

HEPA Filters donation from MBC to medical community
McDonald Building Company is so grateful to the medical professionals who are on the frontlines of this pandemic and we are looking for ways to support the medical community. MBC donated eight HEPA air infiltration units to AtlantiCare South Jersey for emergency use in creating excess isolation rooms if needed. “MBC is proud to support the hospitals as they courageously continue their work during these challenging times. To help however we can, no matter how small, we are undoubtedly happy to contribute,” said Paul McDonald, President. “Our MBC family will continue to work with our community partners to provide support and deploy resources wherever possible.”

McDonald Building Company hosts Porches that Pop
On Saturday, November 16th, 2019, McDonald Building Company (MBC) hosted a volunteer event “Porches that Pop” nearby the New Market West development located at 59th and Market Streets. 30+ volunteers from the New Market West construction team volunteered to complete repairs and exterior upgrades to ten nearby homes as a “thank you” to the nearby residents for their patience during the last few years of dust and noise among other disturbances. Volunteers fueled up on breakfast before the day’s work, and Councilman Jones kicked off the morning with a welcome message to volunteers and community members. The work included wire-brushing and painting porches, landscaping, and window cleaning as well as some concrete repairs.
MBC is committed to working with every resident who applied to participate in Porches that Pop and plans to be back again in the spring to complete work at the remaining homes.
President Paul McDonald says, “We can build a solid project...on time, within budget, no punch list, and hit all the high marks, but if we don’t leave the community surrounding the project better than we found it, we haven’t done our job. Thank you to all who contributed to the success of Porches that Pop.”

MBC Sponsors Women Build Week for Habitat for Humanity of MontCo
Last week, the women of McDonald Building Company volunteered in Pottstown last Friday to “Build Like a Girl” and participate in Women's Build Week for Montgomery County Habitat for Humanity's latest project. This year the Women Build Week volunteers rehabbed a 3-story row home at 430 Walnut Street in Pottstown and McDonald Building Company was the main event sponsor. Led by several dedicated and knowledgeable Habitat volunteers, the MBC crew of 10 teamed up to sand and stain some interior doors, build patio stairs to the backyard and replacing exterior fence posts. The Thompson family of five plans to move in early 2017 and MBC is thrilled to contribute to the Pottstown community.
“We are currently rehabbing Beech Street Factory, also in Pottstown, only a few blocks away from the Thompson family home. To have the opportunity to participate with Habitat and help in a meaningful, impactful way to this family and community is what we love to do,” said Laura Clevenger, Director of Marketing. “And it's awesome watching women come who may not feel comfortable using power tools and learn by the end of the day how to use them. And use them well.”
McDonald Building Company is planning another Corporate Build Day for the entire staff in the spring to continue the support of Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County. To learn more about HFHMC, visit http://www.habitatmontco.org.

MBC Volunteers for Habitat Build Day, Celebrates Home Dedication
The Carey family of five is settling into their newly renovated home thanks to Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County. Unable to afford a place large enough to house the whole family, this hardworking mom moved her family into her parents' modest home to save her resources while she worked full-time as a med tech and attended college part-time. After 20 months and 200 hours of "sweat equity" including volunteer work on her own home, Sanae and her family have a newly renovated place on W. Airy Street in Norristown to call home. MBC was there to celebrate in the Home Dedication Ceremony last month and tour the space.

As part of an ongoing relationship with Habitat MontCo, the MBC crew (and family members wanting to help) was offered to participate in a Corporate Build Day rehabilitation of this home this past spring. Our trained carpenters and staff lended their hands and expertise to the interior drywall application of the first floor main living space, ceilings, and stairwells of this twin built in the early 1900's. The Build Day proved to be a great learning experience for our staff and overall an enjoyable experience.
"Since the beginning of our partnership with Habitat MontCo, we wanted to help out on a project that would provide the most impact given the skills our carpenters already use day in and day out on our jobsites. This W. Airy project was well-suited for our crew given the stage in the building process. As a construction company, it is natural for us to partner with Habitat MontCo. We appreciate the value we can offer to Habitat and also the rewarding learning experiences it offers in return," says Paul McDonald, President.
A few months prior, the women of MBC volunteered at this very same project in the early stages of framing for Women Build Week. Click here to read more about their experience.
Women at MBC Volunteer for Habitat for Humanity
The women of McDonald Building Company grabbed some coffee and power tools and headed over to Airy Street in Norristown last Friday to participate in Women's Build Week for Montgomery County Habitat for Humanity's latest project. With no experience necessary, Women's Build Week brought together a great group of women volunteers who all had the same goal in mind - to help single mom Sanae achieve her dream of owning a home.

The original home was donated to HFHMC by an elderly couple and the interior of the home had been completely demolished since construction began in November 2013. Our team of 5 led by Patti Post, long-time Habitat volunteer worked to reframe the home and learned some valuable construction skills along the way. The finished home will have four bedrooms and one-and-a-half bathrooms and plans to have the family move in end of June of this year.
"Thanks to many kind-hearted and generous supporters, our team well surpassed our fundraising goal and we raised over $2600! Not only was Womens Build Week a great opportunity for us to learn some new skills, it was quite an empowering experience knowing our impact that day extended far beyond one day of service," says Danielle Terpoilli, Assistant Estimator.
And they're not stopping there. McDonald Building Company is planning a Corporate Build Day April 5th, same home, to involve the entire staff to continue their support of this family. Check out our MBC Facebook page or HFHMC Facebook page this spring to see progress of Sanae's home.
Want to help? MBC Is hosting a Dining for Dollars fundraiser at Bertucci's of Audubon March 25th. Come for lunch or dinner and 15% of your bill will go to Habitat for Humanity. Click here for flyer.
